Welcome aboard the Recovery Boat!!!
If you are feeling overwhelmed, intimidated, confused or just plain unsure of how this all works, maybe this post will help you navigate your way around the forum.
You might like to start by writing an introductory post to say hi the other members, tell us a bit about yourself and let others welcome you on board. You don't have to tell us about your eating disorder or anything like that, in fact we would rather get to know you as a person, what you like doing, where you come from and anything you are comfortable with sharing about what makes you who you are. Have a read through the introductions already on there and get to know your fellow sailors.
The sections called Compass and Row Row Row the Boat! are like the help desk of the boat. In here you will find policies and guidelines for the site which keep us all safe. This is also where you can ask questions when you get stuck, or make suggestions as you think of them. The Recovery Boat is a new forum so please let us know if something is missing or isnt working!
The Spinnaker is a one big shopping mall of ideas, tools, worksheets, plans and helpful bits and bobs to read and respond to and add to. There is an ever growing range of knowledge and wealth in the Spinnaker so check it out and feel free to post threads in there too!!!
Inside the Mast are areas for discussing what is going on with your eating disorder, behaviours and other health issues both mental and physical. We are all here to support each other and respect each other without judgement and hope that you will feel comfortable reading and posting in these threads as the need or want arises. We dont particularly like labels, and most people dont fit silly DSM criteria for particular labels and so we have made threads for different behaviours such as restricting and purging rather than categorising eating disorders by their DSM names.
Phew have you made it this far???
The Deck is space for a bit of light relief. A social area where you can post about fun things, random things, arty things, funny things, anything you like. We are all awesome people with lives outside of our eating disorders, it is good to let go, let your hair down and explore the lighter side of life sometimes!
Finally you reach the Hull. Here you can keep a journal and receive feedback as well as reading and posting in other people's journals. To begin a journal simply go into the Ship's Log and click the New Topic button. You can make your first post here, and from then on just reply to the same thread for your subsequent journal entries. You will see that many members already have journals and we have found it to be a great way to get our thoughts and feelings out and receive feedback and support from other members. We really can learn an awful lot from each other and share what is happening in our world.
If you are stuck with anything or have any concerns, you are more than welcome, in fact you are encouraged to contact a Moderator or an Administrator. We are the members with names in green or blue. There are a decent number of us and we span all the time zones so you have a good chance of catching someone and getting a reply pretty promptly. You can click on a blue or green name and send a PM (Private Message) or find one of our journals and leave us a note

please people, we dont bite! It's okay to post. And yes, even if your'e struggeling, or even when you are doing well. We learn from ourselves and others, and someone might be thinking the same thing as you, so be brave and use your voice (ah-hem, key pad)
